Restoration – Part 1 – The Beginning

I have embarked on a journey of restoration this year. This began as a project to update the second story of our home. Just a little paint, you know, nothing major. It all started with a new comforter for our bed.

The project took 3 months total and now there’s new paint, new flooring, and new furniture. Most of the work is DIY, get down and dirty. This started as strictly aesthetic updates to our home but the new year and new view also brought on emotional and spiritual restorations too.

Mother Teresa: “If we love each other as God loves each one of us, there will be peace. To be able to love as He loves, we need a clean heart- a heart free of all that is not love.”

This restoration series is about cleaning, purging, and renewing both externally and internally. My journey has been about facing fears, overcoming barriers, and building something beautiful out of refuse.

January 2019

I found a comforter on sale. It was pretty. I bought it.

It went with nothing…

I picked a paint color, but now where do I begin and end? The hallway and bathrooms were just as outdated. I found some nice rugs and shower curtains too. The paint would look great.

What about the trim it was so ORANGE, would it go with the paint and the blue/grey accessories I had purchased? The carpet was in rough shape. After two babies and 14 years of the busy family life, the carpet had seen better days, like in 2005.

Rules

My husband had one rule for this project, one room at a time. That would prove to be easier said than done and it didn’t really play out that way.

What have I learned? I learned that restoration is never ending both physically and emotionally. Blood, sweat, and tears.

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and uphold me with a willing spirit” (vv. 10–12).- Psalm 51:10–19

Only when we take the time to restore, rebuild and repurpose can see the beauty in all things possible.

*Disclaimer I am not an interior designer! There are no sponsors, besides God. This is just for fun and I hope you enjoy it! Also, some of the “before” photos are actually “in progress” photos. I got ahead of myself a few times and forgot to take photos. Oops.
