Rainbow Cloud

Have you ever seen a rainbow cloud? I have seen many rainbows in my life, but never a rainbow cloud until nine days ago. Initially, I did a little research finding that they are scientifically slightly rare. They happen when tiny water droplets or small ice crystals individually scatter light. There is also a spiritual meaning of hope, divine presence, and promise.

I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. – Genesis 9:13

I have heard the saying, “every cloud has a silver lining – every difficult or sad situation has a comforting or more hopeful aspect even though this may not be immediately apparent.” I have even preached it myself, but honestly, there is NOTHING good about the death of a child.

The first time the rainbow cloud appeared I had a feeling of calm and I was pleased to find it had a special meaning behind it. Today it happened again and the feeling I had was of joy.

I was sitting at my laptop wondering what to write, and out of the corner of my eye there, it was. It appeared between the trees just over the peak of the neighbor’s roof. My first thought was, “it will be a nice pink sunset”, then I looked again because the sun sets out the opposite window. I hit the floor running. There I was standing on a chair hoping desperately it was a sign from heaven.

Honestly, I didn’t believe I was truly seeing a rainbow cloud for the second time, so I needed to get it on camera. I watched it fade away and went inside to inspect my pictures and was pleased to see my eyes weren’t playing tricks on me.

I sat down to do a little more research and within seconds I was reading about Lizzie De Armond and the hymn she wrote called “If your heart keeps right” and here are the lyrics:

1 If the dark shadows gather
As you go along,
Do not grieve for their coming,
Sing a cheery song,
There is joy for the taking,
It will soon be light,
–Ev’ry cloud wears a rainbow
If your heart keeps right.

Chorus:
If your heart keeps right,
If your heart keeps right,
There’s a song of gladness in the darkest night;
If your heart keeps right,
If your heart keeps right,
Ev’ry cloud will wear a rainbow,
If your heart keeps right.

2 Is your life just a tangle
Full of toil and care?
Smile a bit as you journey,
Others’ burdens share;
You’ll forget all your troubles,
Making their lives bright,
Skies will grow blue and sunny
If your heart keeps right. [Chorus]

3 There are blossoms of gladness,
‘Neath the winter’s snow.
From the gloom and the darkness
Comes the morning’s glow;
Never give up the battle,
You will win the fight,
Gain the rest of the Victor,
If your heart keeps right. [Chorus]

After reading the lyrics and listening to the song I am left speechless. Feeling “schooled” by an Angel who has totally figured out the workings of “signs” from above.

Here is a YouTube video of the song being sung by Anita Bryant.

May all your clouds wear rainbows!

These photos don’t do the rainbows justice, but it is there in the center of the first photo and at the peak of the roof in the second photo.
