Window of Perspective

If you were given a window into the light, into the dark, a window of perspective that most aren’t given, would you choose to share the view? Our life is much like a window, one that we open and close as we see fit. We close out the cold and rain, open up to fresh air and sunshine. We often live life like a window with blinds that we filter what comes in and what can be seen from the outside. We only let in what we want and out what we want. But what are we missing, what are we shutting out? The window to life’s ultimate perspective is endless until we lock it and shut the blinds completely. Life’s window often represents safety, but what if it closes and never opens again?

I came across some of my old writings from college. My class papers, the articles I wrote for my school newspaper, some newsletters that I put together for nonprofits back in the day. I have always liked writing, the words (usually) come easily to me. The grammar not always so easy, but that can be fixed. I have heard time and again that I should write “our story”. My favorite quote is “you should bind it” and another is “I’ll wait for the movie”.

The hard part is the organization, the storyline, the parts, the pieces. I have the thoughts, the words, the life experience. I have the passion, the drive, the commitment, but do I have the confidence to open that window over and over again? I started the memoir and it is a work in progress. Writing “our story” is an emotional journey of its own and sharing that perspective requires caution around broken glass. But if I close the blinds forever, what would be the point in all the pain and suffering?

When I wrote this piece a while ago I was in a dilemma, what do I do in the meantime with all of these thoughts. I laid in bed and a million ideas came to mind; the view from the window, the window of time, the window from life to death, the window of opportunity, etc. These ideas don’t really have a place in the memoir, so I created this blog, a different window into my life, into my heart.

Our life is 1 million and one moving, breathing, loving parts. What parts are the right parts, the wrong parts to share or not to share? What view would you share from your window(s) of life? A view of love or heartbreak, joy or grief, gratitude or anger? The view changes regularly because that is life, but we all have a story to tell. Will you choose to let the light shine in your window?

In all the years Kris has been selling windows and siding this is the first time he has ever brought me an old window. I am so excited about all the possibilities that come with repurposing this old window. That is how this post came to be, I repurposed this story from my archives to share with you. Stay tuned for “view”s of this old window project and more “views” from my window of life.
