Unveiling of Living Ava’s Way Foundation

Today is International Childhood Cancer Awareness Day. In memory of Ava, we are announcing the unveiling of the Living Ava’s Way Foundation. Ava was impacted by cancer 3542 of the 4382 days she was alive, yet this disease did NOT define her! Ava’s legacy is one of GIVING, and that is the foundation of Living Ava’s Way.

Ava gave all she had to make the world a more beautiful place. She believed in love with all her heart and gave it unconditionally. Through art, community service, acts of caring, humor, and friendship Ava showed that even in the hardest times everything is better when you pay it forward.

Ava’s final wishes included raising funds to send kids to camp, hold a blood drive and make the world more beautiful. These wishes touched people globally and today Living Ava’s Way Foundation will carry Ava’s legacy forward through our community-based programs.

We need your help to get this foundation funded. We are still in the beginning stages, so we don’t have our 501c3 yet, but the goal is to have it before the year’s end. Below is a synopsis of our goals and programs and how we plan to reach these goals.

Ava’s A` La Carte

Create and maintain a food pantry at Bondurant Farrar Intermediate School. We are working with the district to fill a gap in food resources for our 7th and 8th-grade students. Over 80,000 children in Iowa face food insecurities, according to the Iowa Food Bank Association. Our elementary students can utilize the Back Pack Buddy program, but this program does not extend beyond the 6th grade. Ava’s cart will provide the necessary resources to fill this gap.

The goal is $5000

Ava’s Scholarship

Provide scholarships to local seniors looking to further their education at an accredited university, college, or trade school. These scholarships will have a community service focus to encourage and empower youth to volunteer and embrace community betterment.

The goal is $4000

Ava’s Garden

Ava’s butterfly garden was created in her memory in 2018. It is a beautiful addition to our community and our goal is to maintain, improve, and provide educational opportunities around pollinator protection.

The goal is $1000

Future Development and Continued Collaboration

Living Ava’s Way will grow these programs, develop new programs, and support other nonprofits as funding allows.

  • Children’s Cancer Connection (cabin sponsorship)
