Surviving Halloween – Sugar Free
Trick or treat, eat too many sweets… there is nothing mini about the sugar in fun-sized snickers or peanut butter pumpkins. A sugar-free Halloween is possible. My kids actually said that the first candy-free Halloween we had was the best in a long time. True statement folks. It’s the memories we made that matter most.
Now don’t get me wrong it wasn’t easy that first Halloween, but we made it unscathed and better for it in the end. I wish I had known what I know now, but even then I can honestly say, I’m, not sure how driven I would have been had our circumstances been different. So if I can help make a difference in someone’s life by sharing what I have learned then that is one person I have helped. 100% worth it!! What is the point of Halloween without Trick or Treating for candy? All dressed up and no place to go?? Instead of going door to door for treats we went on a scavenger hunt. Walking with friends and neighbors in costume and checking off our lists. We had a blast with exercise and fun combined!!
For sweet treat alternatives:
Top Three Tuesday – 10/2/18, I shared a Peanut Butter Square recipe that I make into cups instead of squares. These are a fantastic sugar-free candy alternative to have at home. We used to sneak these into the movie theater. Shhhh
This week’s Top Three Tuesday I shared a recipe for Sugar-free Snickers. They are amazing!
And… a hot cocoa recipe to warm up after the scavenger hunt!
How about Ghost Cheese Sticks for a store bought treat?
There are all kinds of non-food treats out there too. My favorite hot spot for these is the Dollar Tree. I love this idea of glow sticks tagged with, “A bit of light for your Halloween night.” SOOOO cute!!
Or super cute monster pencils…
Sounds like a perfect Halloween to me. Some fun, some sugar-free sweets, and some warm low-carb cocoa!
The thing I’ve learned is that food has little to do with happiness. We have made some of the best memories since shaking off the sugar. We have the energy and time to check out apple orchards, pumpkin patches, fall movies, and haunted houses. Making memories outweighs buckets of candy any day!
