Off Track
Today was one of “those” days. The kind of day where everything was off track and no matter what I couldn’t get it back on the rails. It wasn’t a major train wreck or anything, just a little annoying. It was definitely a “squirrel” kind of morning where easily distracted would be an understated description. A simple task of unloading the dishwasher led to a complete disassembly of my twelve and a half-year-old dishwasher, all because my dishes were not clean enough. I took the dishwasher apart as far as the filter, scrubbed everything clean and as I was putting it back together I dropped a screw into the abyss of the dishwasher. Gone.
I tried not to panic, grabbing tweezers, magnets anything, but it was out of reach. I had never taken the dishwasher apart beyond the filter, but today was the day to learn something new or regret caring about clean dishes. The outcome was a 50 50 shot, so I grabbed my phone and went straight to Google. Watched a couple videos and ransacked the garage for what I thought were the right tools. After three more trips to the garage, I finally had the tools to do the job. I was making progress, but then I got to what I have learned is called the Washer Impeller. This so-called impeller would not budge, I could not hold it still and turn the screwdriver. My girl power failed me, so I grabbed my phone and called my husband.
As I waited for my husband to arrive I did a little tidying up because by this time the kitchen looked like a train wreck. He was able to get the screw out of the impeller, but it still would not come off. Back to Google and then my husband was off to Menards for some penetrating oil and CLR as instructed by the internet. Meanwhile, I wiggled, tapped, pried on the impeller ever so gently as to not break it, but hopefully break it loose. Then the magic happened it was free. Once again I grabbed my phone to call my husband, but he was already in the driveway. We finished the scavenger hunt for the lost screw, cleaned the crud out of the bottom of the dishwasher and put it all back together. With fingers crossed, I started it up and gave thanks when it ran without any issues. I dumped in some CLR and ran it two more times. It is shiny clean so hopefully, my dishes will be shiny clean too.

I hate “squirrel” kind of days. They seem to happen to me more and more. Kudos to you for getting in there and fixing the dishwasher.

Great job Joni! You are my kind of woman. Sounds like something I Would do. My Dad always told me ,”someone put it together, you can take it apart”. Only thing is now I don’t think this is so true. They glue and fuse things together and only way to open, is to break it. Lol. Anyway, glad it all worked out for you. Hugs!
